What Yo-kai Watch Wiki is not!

This page is the official guideline of editing for Yo-kai Watch Wiki. This is setted up to give the wiki an unique style of formatting articles that are both new and created. These guidelines are in demand of the staff which the contributor should follow the guideline in order to prevent themselves from getting warnings and eventually being banned from the wiki.

The quality standards can be rewritten sometimes when something new occurs in editing, but however, even if there isn't something mentioned in the guideline that was in the warning, means that there is something you did wrong that disturbed the entire style of the wiki.

Editing articles

For detailed information go here to get the latest details on how to edit articles on Yo-kai Watch Wiki or any other mediawiki-based websites.

Moving articles

When moving articles, do notify a staff member and ask them for permission. Do not move an article out of your own by random, or if you moved an article already, do notify a staff member afterwards. Redirection templates are being categorized and thus is the reason why you should ask a staff member for permission or notify them when you've already done it. However, you should not move articles with a localized name not officially revealed to the public and it does not count if it comes from a third party or from a YouTuber that has the connections or figured it out through datamining. Do request the move in a polite fashion and not in a rushed manner, as the use of words will reveal what is rushed or not. If that happens, your request will be completely ignored.

Talk pages

When leaving a message on a talk page of an article of an user page, then you shoul sign off by adding the four tildes (~~~~). If you have forgotten to sign off your message, then you will be notified by a staff member or a contributor that follows the policy. The message that you also have written will be removed from the talk page.

Article headers

The headers of the articles should not be altered to your own liking. This is because Yo-kai Watch Wiki follows a structure that should be respected and where much content can be added under the headers. If that happens then the article will be reverted in an insant. The contributor should not be harassing a staff member for reverting the headers. If that happens, the contributor will be directly ignored and the contributor will receive a warning.

Episode linking

Characters or Yo-kai that are appearing in the animation series or games should not receive links with only EP001. This is lazy and incomplete for editing, as you should mention the full title of the episode or the episode fragment instead of using the entire link as a title. If you use EP and not the episode title, then that means that you are meaning the entire episode including the fragments. Even if there is an episode with only one fragment, the entire title still must show up.

User talk page

A user's talk page should not be altered without their permission, neither should you response to your own talk page only when it is necessary, like when you have received a message. Do not add fan art of 18+ images on your user page. The image will be deleted and you will receive a warning if it is a fan art or a direct ban if it is a 18+ image. Regular conversations can be held, but it is best to conversate with one another through Discord.

Article style

Articles should use a formal, professional, and encyclopedic writing style.

  • Do not make use of colloquialisms or contractions.
  • Avoid informal or conversational language, an example is writing the way you talk.
  • Yo-kai Watch Wiki uses an in-universe writing style for game content. An example is that editors are refer the hero as "the player" or "they" for gender equality, rather than "you", "him", "her".
  • The way on how you write the articles should have a neutral point of view and should not reflect the author's personal views or offer subjective judgments on the content described.

Character articles

Articles for characters should not have the same structure as various mediawiki-based websites for anime or manga series, especially the ones created and hosted through Wikia. The articles on Yo-kai Watch Wiki should be designed in an original manner, thus the structure of the character articles like as the one following below:

Story This header should have different sub-headers that contains the title of a game or a side-game. Each sub header should contain a story not written in detail. This due that it takes too much space and it can cause loading issues on the wiki when a contributor tries to edit an article that contains a large sum of text.
Befriended Yo-kai Unlike anime characters, there are some Yo-kai that are automatically befriended with the characters that are part of the story. Place them below this header. Do not place Yo-kai that you've befriended in game, as they are not relevant for information.
Etymology Characters have a name with a meaning. Dig deep down and discover the meaning of their names. Do not place an (*) asterisks before adding their name meaning. If that is places, then the asterisks will be removed and you will receive a warning message regarding adding one under this header.

Note
  • Characters that appear in the anime should have (anime) next to the name when the article is created. This is to seperate game characters and anime characters because they do not follow the same story. However, if an game character has low information, and the anime character as well if they are the same character, they can be combined as one article. Any major game character should have (game) next to their name when their article is created.

If there is an usage of EP, the entire section will be removed from the article. Also, any headers and links that contains M (as in movie) will also be removed from the article. Give it their original name even if the title is long or not dubbed yet.

Not to coincide with coincide with Bulbapedia, we are using a different structure of headers and templates to prevent that. Medium articles

Medium articles have a different approach than character articles and Yo-kai articles. Mediums can be broken in multiple ways, such as games, film, manga and comic.

Video games

If that happens, you will receive a direct ban for adding images that are not allowed to place under this header and you are filling in random space and causing more work for removing images.
Trivia Trivial information that cannot be written in an article, thus it is written under this header. This section should not contain fan theories. If that happens, you will receive a direct ban.
In other languages When a game gets localized, it localized in countries with a different language, thus also changing the title of the game and name of the franchise.
Film

When creating a film article, do not create or add a template, as they do not contain valuable information that cannot be a added or created inside of the template. Full explaination will be done through their respective articles.

Template Header Information
Nothing (Read above) Opening line The film article should always start with an opening line, its theatrial debut and the opening and ending song of the film. Further information can also be written in the film article. To give you an idea on how it should go, you can watch the fourth film's article page to see how it should look like.
Story The story of the film written in full detail. However, it should not be written in very full detail as in what every character does or how they move.
Cast It contains the cast that debuts in the film. This should not contain sub-headers as they are placed in a wikitable and thus the differences can be made in the article.
Staff The staff that has worked on the film. Mostly the names of the staff members are written in Japanese, thus if possible it should have their own article with the link placed towards the article.

Features articles

There are articles that represents the features from the game or mechanism that appears in the franchise, such as Request and Favors, [Yo-kai Watch (item)|Yo-kai Watch]], Fusion, and Evolution. Those articles should be written in an encyclopedic manner and not in the form of you writing a guideline or on a forum. The article can be altered by the founder of the wiki ot its liking that benefits the wiki in making it more structured and informative. Be cautious that your work will be altered after creating one. If you retaliate against it or something that breaks the policy, you will be banned from the wiki without an warning.

Summaries of articles

When writing a summary, do note that you should write the story of episodes, movies, chapters or anything else. Do not write very short summaries as the context will be removed from the wiki as it is useless for use. Do not start the summary with Natsume is one of the protagonists in Yo-kai Watch Shadowside: The Return of the Oni King. This will be removed from the wiki. Do write a summary professionally and not quickly with standard context. If you disagree on this, then it is your loss as it will not be reverted normally to how it first was after you've edited it. If you make an edit war about it, then the article will be locked and be prevented from contribution, as well you will receive a warning with the explanation why your edits has been reverted. Do start when writing a summary with Nathan, Katie, Eddie, and Bear were talking about bugs with each other at Triangle Park, not Nathan first appearaed in Yo-kai Watch were he meets Whisper. etc.

Categories

You should not create random categories or request for categories. Categories for characters that appears in each seperate Yo-kai Watch game or spin-offs should be included in their articles, but not if they are a resident in places. Yo-kai characters should not have very random categories such as what gender they are or might be, which is because it could be tricky, what color they have, what team they are in, if they are a protagonist or antagonist, or anything else. Categories should only have a single line of what the category contains. Categories are not meant to be a model of an article page. If that is created and discovered, the category will be removed from the wiki and from the articles it has been added to. The contributor will receive a warning if they have done that.

To be more specific what kind of categories are allowed for each different articles are the following:
